The bookstore is haunted by the ghost of a former owner, the widow of the original owner, who died in the store. The novel is known for its witty dialogue, charming characters, and its celebration of the joys of reading and bookselling. It has remained a popular representative of the “bibliomystery,” a mystery story set in the world of books.
