The Interpretation of Dreams is an 1899 book (dated 1900), in which the author introduces his theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation. It is offered here in the first English translation by Dr. A. A. Brill (1913), who for almost forty years was the translator and standard-bearer of Freudian theories in America.

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. Freud may justly be called the most influential intellectual legislator of his age. His creation of psychoanalysis was at once a theory of the human psyche, a therapy for the relief of its ills, and an optic for the interpretation of culture and society.
