D. H. Lawrence, “Lady Chatterley’s Lover”

One of most famous and controversial twentieth-century English novels

Unabridged text

The novel soon became notorious for its story of the physical relationship between a working-class man and an aristocratic woman, with explicit sexual descriptions and what was deemed frequent uses of vulgar language. This last of Lawrence’s novels reflects the author’s belief that men and women must overcome the deadening restrictions of industrialized society and follow their natural instincts to passionate love.

Unabridged text.
