‘What I have most wanted to do… is to make political writing into an art’

One of Orwell’s finest works, Animal Farm (1945) is a political fable based on the events of Russia’s Bolshevik revolution and the betrayal of the cause by Joseph Stalin. The book concerns a group of barnyard animals who overthrow and chase off their exploitative human masters and set up an egalitarian society of their own.

This new edition includes Orwell’s only introduction for an international translation of Animal Farm, written for Ukrainians (1947).

George Orwell, pseudonym of Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), was an English novelist, essayist, and critic famous for his last novel too, Nineteen Eighty-four (1949), the latter a profound anti-utopian novel that examines the dangers of totalitarian rule.
