Mary E. Bradley Lane (1844-1930) was a U.S. schoolteacher and author. Little is known of her life beyond Mizora, which first ran in newspaper serial and was later issued in book form with a prefatory note by editor Murat Halstead. Today the novel stands as a landmark—both for its daring faith in education and science, and for the troubling eugenic ideas it inherits from its time.
