Leslie Charteris (1907–1993) was a British-Chinese author best known as the creator of Simon Templar, “The Saint,” one of the most iconic characters in 20th-century popular fiction. Beginning with Meet the Tiger (1928), Charteris wrote dozens of novels, short stories, and scripts featuring the suave adventurer, whose exploits were later adapted into radio, film, and television—most famously with Roger Moore in the 1960s TV series The Saint. Charteris’s blend of mystery, wit, and action secured his place among the great masters of crime and adventure fiction.
