Marie Corelli (1855–1924) was one of the most widely read and best-selling British novelists of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Combining romance, mysticism, and moral allegory, her works challenged materialism and celebrated spiritual intuition. Often dismissed by critics yet adored by millions of readers worldwide, Corelli anticipated many modern themes of psychological and metaphysical fiction. Her 1895 masterpiece, The Sorrows of Satan, a Faustian tale of temptation and redemption, remains her most famous and enduring work.
